These two small poetry anthologies, thoughtfully edited by James Crews, are the perfect antidote for a stressful day in a conflicted world.
The anthologies include some of my favorite poets: Ted Kooser, Ross Gay, Barbara Crooker, Jane Hirshfield, Naomi Shihab Nye, Li-Young Lee, Tony Hoagland, Jane Kenyon, Lucille Clifton, and Joy Harjo, to name a few, as well as poets new to me. The beauty of a well-edited anthology is that it gives you a small sample from a poet, encouraging you to explore more of their work.
These books sit on the table next to my reading chair and their beautiful covers draw me in when I have a quiet moment or need a little inspiration. They also make the perfect gift for a friend who you know will savor the peace and beauty of a good poem.
