“Killer Potential,” by Hannah Deitch, is a story about two unlikely fugitives. The thriller is darkly funny and provocative. It’s an edge of your seat ride that follows two unlikely fugitives.

Evie Gordon is a scholarship kid with straight A’s and big dreams. She always thought she was special and that she would be someone. But after graduating from an elite university she finds herself drowning in debt and working as an SAT tutor for super-rich families in Los Angeles.

Evie enjoys her job for the most part, but everything changes one Sunday when she arrives for her weekly lesson at the Victor’s Beverly Hills estate. In lieu of a bored teenager Evie finds the bloody remains of the teen’s parents strewn through their beautiful back garden, and a woman in a closet tied up and crying for help. As Evie works to free the woman, they are spotted and within in moments go from innocent bystanders, to suspects, to fugitives on the run.

At the heart of a manhunt, Evie, accompanied by Jae, the mysterious woman who refuses to speak, knows the only way to clear her name is to find the real killer. But first, Evie must find a way to break down the barriers with her companion, who is becoming the most important person as well as a notorious person in Evie’s crazy life. As the two flee across the United States, developments in the case shock the nation, the press running wild, Evie now the cover in every magazine and newspaper.

Evie know she needs to keep Jae safe but discovers Jae has many “talents” such as stealing cars, food, clothing, boats and finding safe places for them to hide out. Jae seems able to protect Evie with her logical thinking and escape routes.

“Killer Potential” is part thriller, part dark comedy and part romance that keeps you reading to see how Evie and Jae will survive as they run from the law, and how Evie will prove her innocence. I highly recommend this book with all of its twists and turns.
